Jonathan Holste
Hello Americans,
My name is Jonathan and I am one of the German exchange students. We are staying here for about three weeks and want to learn something about the ‘real American way of life’! My first impression of the Americans was that they are very smart and helpful. At the same time, I noticed how the majority of students dressed up. I have never seen so many girls in yoga pants. When I talked to Elizabeth Wolfe she shared her thoughts about how German dress: “ I think the German style is just modern. They dressed up like people in big cities.” I wouldn’t be able to eat frozen food every day like the majority of the Americans do. I prefer to eat the food of my mum. She tries to cook a healthy meal. I have learned that Carter Melrose’s mum cooks when he is telling her to. So there is a little difference. However it is amazing to have the chance to choose between one and a million possibilities to eat lunch. But watching TV during dinner was a new kind of experience I made in the USA. We should introduce that in Germany. There is one thing we have in common: Who would I be without America’s music, so thank you for that. I’ve never imagined that there are so many people who are interested in watching a girl’s volleyball game. I think it supports the school spirit and I am very sad that the people in Germany are not that interested in school sports! It is very important to mention that the Americans are all about sports. But at least it is quite funny that one of the first things my Journalism class told me about Germans was that they’ve got a lot of instagram likes. That’s a stereotype I can live with.
I had a great time here in the USA especially because of the people I go to school with and because of my host family, Steven Acklin. So thank you!
