We have all been in the high school parking lot during the winter months; it’s hectic to say the least. The rows of normally straight cars twist and turn making it impossible to navigate after school. If you are one of the lucky ones who can back out of your spot, you’re going to run into trouble when the cars at the end of the row are bumper to bumper. One of the main causes of this problem is the layer of ice and snow that makes it nearly impossible to see the parking lines. After the first snowfall, the layers of ice stick to the top of our parking lot. With this layer of ice, snow can stick easily causing our once black lot to turn completely white. The once yellow lines begin to fade into white as well.
One solution for our iced and snowed over parking lot is in ground heating through the concrete. When construction on the new schools begins there is going to be new a parking lot built. When the new lot is being poured wires that produce heat can be laid in the wet concrete and another layer on concrete on top. When we are expecting the first snowfall, a flick of a switch can solve all of the parking lot problems. Snow and ice are no match to the heat now coming out of the parking lot, it will all melt right off. The price is the only obstacle. According to warmzone.com it would cost our school $30,000 to heat the parking lots we currently have. That is quite a bit of money and we are building our new school on a budget. When designs come in for the new school, the heated parking should be a priority. Without snow and ice covering the concrete, the students would be in less danger of car accidents
