If you haven’t heard from any students or teachers yet or read the posters in the halls, CCHS’ own drama department gets to cut loose with their production of this years fall musical, Footloose!
Every school year the drama department has two plays one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall play for this year is going to be a musical. When it came down to picking what musical to do, Linda Brandt, CCHS’ drama department director, had said all four directors had different ideas but had found one that satisfied all expectations of a great musical. Footloose emerged the winner.
Footloose is about a city kid, Ren, moving to a small town where dancing and rock music is banned, but his rebellious spirit and love of dancing shakes up the citizens in both good an bad ways, forever changing the towns views. Each musical requires auditions. The coveted spots were Ren the lead male, Ariel the lead female, and her friends Rusty, Wendy Jo, and Urleen. This musical has many speaking, dancing, singing, and walk-on parts, it’s a drama philosophy in fall shows to get everyone a small part or at least involved. Even if someone couldn’t sing, dance, or act everybody who tried out got something to do. Austin Bauer at the mentioning of new participants said, “Don’t worry about being shy or that you cant step up on stage and be in front of a crowd, that’s always a problem for anybody who comes in for their first year or who does it for the first time.”
When asked about how she thought the show would turn out Brandt predicted that it would bring in both more new drama members and more audience members than past musicals ever had before. Hopefully her predictions come true. Both were very excited to finally get the drama season started. The performance dates are Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th at the middle school. Brandt’s last words about the drama department were, “Come have fun!”
