The class of 2018 has joined the rest of the high school student body with high hopes and ambitions for the upcoming year. Freshmen Macy Ross, Payton Reams and Chris Duncun share their thoughts and experiences of high school. “The first day of high school was overwhelming,” explains Duncun. “However, after being at it for a couple of days I’m really excited about being here.”
To help many students cope with middle school to high school transition, all freshmen attended the Freshman Retreat on August 27th. “The people running the retreat were amazing,” Reams said. “Everyone talked with each other and overall I feel much closer with my classmates.” With that positive experience underway, the freshmen along with others have turned their attention towards the goals and expectations they have set for their 9th grade year.
“Sports are harder now,” explains Duncun. “Coaches are definitely expecting more out of you than they did in middle school.” Ross agrees with Duncun in the fact that sports are more of a challenge at the high school level. “You have more competition because you’re mixing with all the different grade levels,” she said. “However, I’m planning on working hard.”
Being in high school now poses new opportunities for the three freshmen, as well as the rest of the student body. “I’m so excited to make new friends with different grade levels,” Reams said. “I can’t wait for homecoming!” Ross is also ready to meet other high school students. “I’m happy that I get to have classes and lunch with grades other than my own,” she said.
After conquering the navigation of the circled hallways and going from “top-dog” to “under-dog“, Reams along with Ross and Duncun state they are ready for their 9th grade year. “I already like high school more than middle school,” said Reams. “There is so much more freedom. I’m excited to see what this year brings.”
